The Lodge is located in a privileged area surrounded by native forests hundreds of years old and lagoons at 2,000 meters height directly in front of El Nevado Glacier. It is located among the remains of the most recent volcanic eruption reminding us of the ferocious power of nature that created extensive lava flows which eventually turned into volcanic rock and gave the Lodge its name: ROCANEGRA (black rock). The fauna that can be seen in the area is protected. It is possible to view condors, huemul, pumas, foxes, woodpeckers, monitos del monte, chucaos, and others.
Corralco offers excellent backcountry and mountaineering access and this is the main drawcard for experienced skiers and boarders. An ascent to the “peak” of the Crater of Lonquimay is particularly popular. It is at an elevation of 2,890 meters, that is, 490 meters higher than the new top lift. Lonquimay gets huge amounts of snow, and the quality of the snow is often great powder because the slopes face south to southeast. The Lonquimay Volcano is rather exposed and at the mercy of the weather gods. Whilst the weather isn’t as fickle as it is at nearby Villarrica, there might be days when you will need to relax, enjoy the Spa and try other adventures.
