PATAGONIA - CHILE
ABOUT
The Carretera Austral is Patagonia’s most magnificent road trip; a true Patagonian adventure. Its name, which means “Southern Highway” refers to the 1,240-kilometer road that connects the northernmost point of Puerto Montt (in Lakes District) and its southernmost point, Villa O’Higgins (in the Aysén region). It spans a territory that is divided from Argentina in the east by the Andes Mountains and bookended in the west with the narrow channels and fjords of the Pacific Ocean.
On this first part of the route, from Hornopirén to Caleta Gonzalo, there are approximately 92 km that you will travel first on a barge across the Comau fjord for 3.5 hours. Arriving in Leptepu the route continues by land for another 10 kms to reach Largo Fjord, from where you embark again across Reñihue fjord to Caleta Gonzalo, entrance point to Pumalin Park. With its diverse natural beauty and welcoming culture, the rugged depths of its various national parks and sweeping landscapes of lush temperate rainforests, powerful waterfalls and egg-blue glaciers - enjoy the paradise of Patagonia!
Puerto Lonconao's 350-hectare property offers its very own private park and trails across the thick woods.
