PATAGONIA - CHILE
ABOUT
Located in the Chilean Patagonia, Aysén is the next to last administrative region if we look at the country from a north-to-south perspective. The third largest region, it is also the least populated one, with around 100,000 inhabitants sparsely distributed throughout its fragmented 108,494 km² surface. This extremely low density of human presence grants the region an especially indomitable character with many places to literally discover and marvel at. Some of the hallmark geographical features of Aysén are the Northern and Southern Patagonian Ice Fields, the first of which is entirely located within the region; a wild fjordland that holds several pristine archipelagos and islands; an assortment of snow-capped summits among which is Monte San Valentin, the highest mountain in all of Patagonia; and loads of precious water bodies, national parks and reserves.
