Cochamó - chile
ABOUT
Located 116 kilometers from Puerto Montt, Cochamó has been called the Yosemite of Chile. In mapudungún, Kocha-mo means “where the waters meet”. In truth, Cochamó Valley is beyond comparison, and can only be truly appreciated firsthand. Its granite cliffs rise one thousand or more meters from the valley floor, where local families have owned and worked the land for generations, creating a unique combination of quaint cattle pastures and farm houses surrounded by steep walls of glacially-carved rock in all directions.
The town of Cochamó is settled by the waters of the Reloncaví Estuary, ideal for kayaking and touring the coastline. The trail that connects Cochamó with La Junta is one of the most visited attractions for trekking. Along the way you will find a footbridge, streams, waterslides, waterfalls and the “Paso de la Muerte” (Death’s Pass): a narrow route where you can see the Cochamó River from a great height. Whether you’re a hardcore climber, a multi-day trekker or a casual hiker, Cochamó has something to offer.
The Chilean Altiplano is part of a high plateau shared by Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.
