A mythical land of legends and magic, the Greater Island of Chiloé is the second largest in Chile, after Tierra del Fuego. Located 90 km Southwest of Puerto Montt, this island of seafaring people, interesting local culture and enormous natural and cultural wealth, has a special character that attracts many. While its coastlines present abundant native fauna and birdlife, the interior serves as shelter to native forests.
Being a development pole for the Huilliche culture, Chiloé has a long-standing folklore tradition of myths and legends that have blended with Christianity creating mythological characters such as El Trauco and La Pincoya. Its architecture of wooden tile buildings and houses, is one of the island's most characteristic features. The wooden churches in Chiloé have gained great fame and recognition; most of them were built around the XVII and XVIII centuries by Jesuits. Welcome to this paradise for the adventurer soul!
