Amboro National Reserve - Bolivia
ABOUT
Only 85 kilometers from the city of Santa Cruz, Amboró National park is located in the confluence of 3 different ecosystems: the Amazon Rainforest, the Northern Chaco and the Andes Mountains. Due to this unique geographical position, which makes it a truly unique place in the world, the park showcases an immensely wide range of elevations, all the way from 300 masl to 3,200 masl. The wide altitude variation within the park grants it a truly astonishing vegetational diversity, including lowland forests, yunga cloud forests, giant fern forests, cactus forests and pampas, among others. Orchids, 400-year old giant ferns and bromeliads are some of the flora highlights in Amboró.
With an extremely high biodiversity, it is home to over 912 species of birds, 177 species of mammals, 135 species of reptiles, 173 species of amphibians, and over 2,659 species of plants. One of the record-breaking features of the park is its high concentration of birds per square meter. On another note, the northernmost part of the area, namely tropical rainforest or jungle, stands out for a number of beautiful waterfalls and crystal-clear natural pools.
Bolivia’s exotic and fascinating character blends impressive record-breaking landscapes with a rainbow of different cultures and ethnicities.
