ABOUT

La Campana National Park is one of the most representative and singular natural areas of Central Chile, created in 1974 and declared Biosphere Reserve in 1985. It occupies 8000 ha, in the midst of the Coastal Mountain Range, displaying one of the last forests of Chilean Palma – a native species in risk of extinction which can reach up to 30m high! The forest here is abundant in lingues, canelos, palo santo and peumos; foxes and birdlife can be spotted. Fantastic views of The Andes and the Pacific Ocean are available from the top of La Campana hill - even Charles Darwin reached its top, in 1834.
The park has 3 main areas: Granizo, Cajón Grande and Palmas de Ocoa. Each offers multiple trails for trekking, hiking and nature watching. Granizo is a favorite for climbers and trekkers. At the foot of La Campana NP is the small rural town of Olmué, the birthplace of many local country traditions of central Chile, which is also worth a visit.
